What is the radiator?

  The electric cooling radiator fan turns on and off when needed in reference to the internal temperature of the vehicle. This is an improvement since the engine-driven fans that tend to slow down when they are needed the most. As mentioned previously, a failed radiator fan will result into the engine’s overheating.   The Mechanical radiator fan relies mostly on the mechanical energy from the engine in order to run smoothly and properly. Generally, there are two main categories of mechanical fans – flex fans and clutch fans. The clutch fans are under the control of a thermostat and makes use of a clutch to engage and disengage. The clutch dans appears to spin at approximately 30 percent of the speed of the waster pump continuously. The clutch also may appear to limit how fast the fan may spin; it will only turn the fan at a fraction of the water pump speed. Yet, it all depends on the temperature and engine speed. When should you choose a clutch fan?

There are several reasons why a clutch fan is very useful. The reasons are stated below: If the mildly or stock modified engines, high performance in terms of cooling ability and applications up to 6,000 rpm.   Take note, flex fans do not use a clutch. Thus, it operates at 100percent of water pump speed instead. This makes the flex fans to be more efficient than the clutch fan type. The flex fans are considered to be lighter than the clutch fans. Most of the time the flex fans do have blades that seem to be flatten out at higher rpms to achieve optimal efficiency. Two Types of Radiator Fan
When should you choose a flex fan?
On the other hand, a flex fan is recommended for the following reasons: a mildly modified car engine, if you need good cooling ability with less drag at higher rpm, lightweight fan and applications up to 8,000 rpm.  
Attributes of mechanical fans (belt-driven fans)
This type of radiator fan is recommend for mildly modified street vehicles or stock. However, its main disadvantage may include causing parasitic horsepower loss because the car engine appears to use up a certain amount of power spinning the fan. Eventually, it results to significant power loss for the rear wheels. Thus, the electric fan is more preferred for cars or trucks which are highly modified.
